![]() ![]() Not ideal, but not a huge deal-breaker, in my opinion anyway. Curious to hear if there are other solutions though - I figure there has to be a good GM synth out there somewhere? Always wanted to try SoundCanvas but it seems to be subscription only, and I don't wanna do that.) (I use VSTSynthFont for this sort of thing, because it's cheap, GM-compatible, multitimbral and plays soundfonts so you can change how it sounds a bit. Or set up a GM playback thing as a multi-track preset and drag the imported midi onto there. ![]() It only takes a few seconds to create a new instrument track and redirect the midi tracks to a new midi port - provided the destination is multitimbral, you can typically leave the channel settings intact. Given how laggy and annoying it is to use though, my solution in the past has been to just use some generic GM-compatible VST for quick and dirty playback. The old GS Wavetable Synth is nowhere to be seen. I just tried importing a generic midi file and it defaults to the midi output on my soundcard (presumably because it's the first midi out port in the list), which isn't hooked up to anything and hence doesn't make a sound.
